OFF THE GROUND
The "off the ground" project, with the theme of site-specific perspective, was designed to level "art" with respect to regional influences. In fact, this problem (Oriental thinking, site-specific perspective recognition problem) has long been known, but it is also a problem that is overlooked. In the question "What is art?" the word "art" was set by Western countries through the foundation of Western art history, and its influence still affects all areas of art today.
It is always large cities that are trying to resemble Western European standards, and large cities recognize and accept more individuality than local cities. For this reason, young artists have to bear competition and high economic costs, and local cities have a young population outflow. There is also a problem that cultural infrastructure is concentrated in the metropolitan area.
The resulting regional power also affects the selection of works at international art festivals such as the Biennale, and local power arises between local and metropolitan artists.
Spaceium tries to find a way to have an objective view of local art diversity through this project. The main purpose of this joint project is to recognize and share the value of each region's art, away from the criteria for evaluating art through the most influential Western art history frame, rather than seeing the perception of art in small cities, large cities, and the world.
